This is a great example of quick thinking by both a caller and the telephone operator – who between them managed to report an incident of domestic violence by means of a faux pizza delivery, without the knowledge of the abuser.
This tactic for subtly calling the emergency services has been internet lore for years, but this is a rare, confirmed case of it being effective. But note, that it being rarely reported does not mean it doesn’t happen more often. The lesson here is that a disclosure of harm may come by any means – so you should make sure you’re aware of the possibility of this kind of situation, and know how you should respond.
