Oceania case studies

Keeping Children Safe is influencing, supporting, training and working with international and locally-based development and humanitarian NGOs in Oceana to enable them to embed robust child safeguarding measures within their organisations and raise standards throughout all sectors.

Safety and sports outreach the Pacific

Children have the right to participate in sport in a safe and enjoyable environment, but this is not always the case. The exploitation and abuse of children involved in sport is a global problem.

In partnership with the Australian Sports Outreach Program, UK Sport and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, Keeping Children Safe is helping to make sure that sports are safe for children by helping to share international safeguarding standards.

We contributed to the drafting of the International Safeguards for Children in Sport to strengthen the child safeguarding capacity of all sports organisations. The International Sport for Development Unit of the Australian Sports Commission also contracted KCS to help develop the child safeguarding capacity of the Australian Sports Outreach Program (ASOP), which is active in the islands of Vanuatu, Samoa, Fiji, Nauru, and Kiribati.

If your organisation works for and with children, then it is high time to check if you have put rigorous child safeguarding measures in place – starting from the top of the organisation, right down to your field staff and outside suppliers. Prevention, after all, is better than lives destroyed because of abuse.
